Some PS Plus Subscribers Are Getting a Different Free Game for January 2024

PlayStation Plus subscribers in Japan are in for a unique treat this January 2024, as Sony has announced a last-minute change to the lineup. Instead of Evil West, which is part of the free monthly games for PS Plus members worldwide, Japanese subscribers will now receive Lost Epic as an exclusive addition to their gaming collection.

For those unfamiliar with the PlayStation Plus service, it offers a monthly selection of free games to its subscribers, and these titles remain accessible until the user decides to end their subscription. The January 2024 lineup initially included A Plague Tale: Requiem, Evil West, and Nobody Saves the World for players globally. However, this adjustment means that PlayStation Plus members in Japan will have access to a different game, namely Lost Epic.

The revised lineup for PS Plus Free Games in January 2024 now includes:

  • A Plague Tale: Requiem
  • Nobody Saves the World
  • Lost Epic (Exclusive to Japan)

While players in other regions will still have access to Evil West, Japanese subscribers will embark on a distinctive gaming journey with Lost Epic. This 2D side-scrolling action-RPG offers a contrasting gameplay experience to Evil West. It’s worth noting that Evil West received favorable reviews at its launch, boasting a Metacritic score of 73 for its PS5 version, while Lost Epic stands at a respectable 64.

This shift in the lineup is not unprecedented, as regional variations have occurred in the past. PlayStation Plus subscribers in different regions have occasionally received different games. For example, in November 2023, the Middle East enjoyed Tropico 5 as a free monthly PS Plus game, while other regions were treated to Mafia 2: Definitive Edition. Similarly, Asia has seen variations in their PS Plus offerings, with the possibility of bonus titles alongside the global catalog.

Subscribers to the Extra and Premium tiers of PS Plus can anticipate even more gaming options later in January 2024. Sony plans to update the catalog around the middle of the month, though the specific titles for these tiers are yet to be officially revealed. As fans eagerly await the announcement, the dynamic nature of PlayStation Plus continues to provide diverse and exciting gaming experiences for subscribers worldwide.
